Development and Evaluation of a Smartphone-Based Electroencephalography (EEG) System

The aim of the study was to design, develop and evaluate a general-purpose EEG platform which integrates with smartphone. target specification system 19 channels data stored onto smartphone via Wi-Fi connection. hardware developed using three ADS1299 integrated circuits, game engine, Unity, used app. An evaluation conducted recordings alpha waves during periods eye closure in participants (Bland-Altman statistical comparison clinical grade system). also deliver time-locked auditory stimuli an oddball paradigm ability acquire event related potentials (ERP) sitting walking. No significant differences were found for wave peak amplitude, frequency area under curve intra-system (two consecutive waves) or inter-system (developed smartphone-based versus FDA-approved system) comparisons. ERP results showed amplitude P300 component deviant tones significantly higher when compared standard walking activities. It is envisaged that our will encourage other researchers design build their own specific versions rather than being limited by fixed features commercial products.
